Breast Pump  Now

New Manual Breast Pump Makes Being Away from Baby
a Little Easier, Healthier and Smarter

Lansinoh Extends Line of Premium Breastfeeding Products with New Manual
Breast Pump and Breastmilk Storage Bottles, Must-Haves for Breastfeeding
                                    Moms

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 25, 2007 Providing the necessary
resources to help moms continue breastfeeding for the recommended 12 months
is very important to Lansinoh Laboratories(R), the maker of premium
breastfeeding products. Lansinoh also believes that being able to pump
breastmilk successfully is key to achieving this goal for many nursing
mothers.
Whether a nursing mom plans on returning back to work or simply wants
the flexibility a breast pump offers, Lansinoh is providing her with a few
options. Following its successful launch in 2006 of the Double Electric
Breast Pump, the new Lansinoh(R) Manual Breast Pump offers women another
option for pumping. Designed for mothers who have to pump occasionally, its
portability and small size also make it ideal for the mom who wants to
supplement her electric breast pump.
"By expanding our line of breastfeeding products, we are continuing to
enable all moms to continue breastfeeding as long as they can, even if they
need to be away from their babies and are unable to nurse for a given
period of time," says Gina Ciagne, CLC, Lansinoh's director of
breastfeeding relations and outreach. "The manual pump was designed to help
moms in meeting these goals by helping provide breastmilk for their baby
when they are separated and by helping to keep up their breastmilk supply."
    Manual Breast Pump
The new manual pump was designed with the needs of breastfeeding
mothers in mind. Easy to assemble, use and clean, the new Lansinoh Manual
Breast Pump has a ComfortSeal(TM) cushion that creates a secure seal for
more comfortable pumping. The cushion creates a vacuum providing reliable
suction while imitating baby's nursing rhythm, resulting in comfortable and
fast milk flow. The pump also includes a 2-in-1 flange cover/bottle stand.
When used as a bottle stand it holds the bottle to prevent spills. However,
it can also be used as a cover to protect the flange of the pump for
cleanliness during travel. The lightweight, compact manual pump allows for
easy one-hand use and portability. In addition, the manual pump components
are made of polypropylene, the preferred plastic of breastmilk storage.
Included with the Manual Breast Pump is a ComfortSeal cushion, two
standard size bottles, extra valves, two bottle rings and sealing disks
allowing you to use your preferred bottle nipple on the bottle, a cleaning
brush, and an extra silicone diaphragm. While the pump includes two 5-oz
collection bottles, it is designed so that moms can pump into any standard
size bottles of their choice.
With its new, attractive, easy-to-read bilingual English and Spanish
packaging, the Lansinoh Manual Breast Pump will be available online and in
mass merchandisers nationwide in early 2007 for the suggested retail price
of $34.99.
    Storing Expressed Breastmilk
Ideal for moms who occasionally pump, the new Lansinoh Breastmilk
Storage Bottles are available for $9.99. The four-pack of 5-oz bottles are
made of polypropylene, the preferred plastic for storing breastmilk, and
are compatible with Lansinoh's Manual Breast Pump and Double Electric
Breast Pump. Expressed breastmilk can be stored in the refrigerator for up
to eight days and can be fed using the collection bottle or a bottle of
your choice.
In addition to the storage and collection bottles, Lansinoh also offers
Lansinoh Breastmilk Storage Bags, which are pre-sterilized for storing and
freezing breastmilk, designed with a convenient pour spout for transferring
milk into a bottle. To help prevent leaks and punctures, the Breastmilk
Storage Bags are the thickest bags available. The bags can also be stored
flat in the freezer for three to four months, taking up less space and
making them easier to thaw.

support until the baby's first birthday
Lansinoh offers a complete line of premium breastfeeding products,
including the safest and purest form of lanolin designed for use by
breastfeeding mothers to relieve nipple soreness, nursing pads, breastmilk
storage bags and bottles, clean and condition cloths for babies, and a

Breast pump

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A breast pump is a mechanical device (powered manually or by electricity) that extracts milk from the breasts of a woman who is lactating. The breast pump was invented and patented by Edward Lasker. Mechanically, a breast pump is directly analogous to a milking machine used in commercial dairy production. A misconception is that the breast pump suctions milk out of the breast. A breast pump's job is to trigger the milk-ejection response or let-down. Most pumps achieve this goal by using suction to pull the nipple into the tunnel of the breast shield or flange then release, which counts as one cycle. Thirty to sixty cycles per minute can be expected with better quality electric breast pumps. It is important to note that in most cases the breast pump is not as efficient at removing milk from the breast as the nursing baby.

The expressed breast milk (EBM) may be stored and later fed to a baby by bottle. Expressed milk may be kept at room temperature for up to ten hours (at 66-72 degrees Fahrenheit, around 20 degrees Celsius), refrigerated for up to 8 days, or frozen for six months in a deep freeze separate from a refrigerator maintained at a temperature of 0 degrees Fahrenheit, −18 degrees Celsius. Expressed milk may be donated to milk banks, which provide human breast milk to premature infants and other high-risk children whose mothers cannot provide for them.
